Payless asked us to bring to life the 5–Day Sale for this holiday season. We were thrilled! This was a true team effort all the way through. We worked closely with Payless to develop each illustration and design each frame of this video. We had a blast animating a snow globe, snowflakes, wind swirls, and Santa’s sleigh! All of our assets were created digitally then hand-traced in After Effects to give us the playful hand-drawn feel. We wore our Wacom stylus tips down to smoking nubs to ensure line quality and consistency.
We collaborated with our Director Brian Johnson to create more interaction between our talent and the illustrations. Simple gestures toward falling snowflakes were the perfect motivation for playful transitions. In post, we had plenty of opportunities to add animated accents to punctuate our talent’s performance.
We had a lot of fun making these spots, it’s not everyday you get to animate doodles and eight flying reindeer. We are proud to say it was produced all under one roof, right here at Optimus. Now go buy some shoes!
